What is a Digital Product Passport (DPP)?
A DPP is an emerging tool designed to provide detailed, accessible information about a product throughout its entire lifecycle. Stored in a digital format, often via a QR code, it contains data such as material composition, manufacturing processes, environmental impact, and end-of-life recycling options.
By making this information transparent and easily available to consumers, regulators, and businesses, digital product passports support circular economy goals, encourage sustainable consumption, and improve traceability across supply chains. They are increasingly being explored in sectors like fashion, electronics, and construction as part of wider efforts to reduce waste and meet sustainability targets.
Why are we doing it?
Transparency has always been important to us. We want our customers to have access to the information they need to understand the products they buy and the impact they have.
That’s why, in 2023, we started working with independent third-party Green Story to create Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) for all our products. This involved analysing a huge amount of data, from raw materials and suppliers to energy consumption, carbon footprint, water usage and our wider supply chain. Creating DPPs is the next step in making this information more accessible.
We’re also getting ahead of upcoming EU requirements, with Digital Product Passports expected to become mandatory for many product categories as part of the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation. By putting DPPs in place across our entire range now, we’re taking a proactive approach to transparency and preparing for the changes ahead.
